Hello, Plant Besties!
Hope you all had an amazing June! I certainly did, enjoying some much-needed R&R at one of my favorite Mexican resorts, Xcaret Arte. This was my first time staying at Arte, and it was just as incredible as Casa De La Playa! Despite the rain for the entire two weeks, I still had an unforgettable time. Check out my YouTube vlog for more details and content from the trip. Xcaret Arte is truly one of my favorite resorts, with lush greenery in every corner and thoughtfully designed decor that blends traditional and modern Mexican charm. If you're planning your next vacation, I highly recommend this property for plant lovers like myself.
July brings long days, plenty of sunshine, and the perfect opportunity to take your plant care routine to the next level. Whether you're a seasoned plant parent or just starting your green journey, this month is all about keeping your plants happy and thriving in the summer heat. Here are some of my plant care tips and projects for these hot summer months.
Summer Plant Care Tips
Hydration is Key:
Just like us, plants need more water during the summer. Ensure you're keeping up with their hydration needs by watering consistently, but avoid overwatering. Check the soil moisture before watering to ensure it's needed.
Shade and Sun Protection:
Some plants can get sunburned just like us! Provide shade for sensitive plants during the hottest parts of the day using shade cloths or by moving them to less direct sunlight.
Pest Control:
Summer is prime time for pests. Keep an eye out for common plant pests like aphids, spider mites, and whiteflies. Regularly inspect your plants and use natural remedies or insecticidal soap to keep pests at bay.
Fertilizing:
Summer is a growing season, so don't forget to feed your plants. Use a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer to give them the nutrients they need to grow strong and healthy.
Creative Outdoor Plant Projects
DIY Vertical Garden:
Maximize your outdoor space by creating a vertical garden. Use wall-mounted planters or repurpose an old wooden pallet to create a stunning vertical display of herbs, flowers, or succulents.
Outdoor Plant Shelf:
Build or buy an outdoor plant shelf to showcase your potted plants. This not only adds a beautiful focal point to your garden but also keeps your plants organized and easy to care for.
Fairy Garden:
Create a whimsical fairy garden using a large shallow planter, small plants, moss, and miniature fairy garden accessories. This is a fun project that can add a touch of magic to your garden or balcony.
Upcycled Planters:
Get creative with upcycling by turning everyday items into unique planters. Old boots, teapots, and even broken furniture can be transformed into charming homes for your plants.
Reflecting on Your Plant Journey
As we soak up the summer sun, let's remember to enjoy the simple pleasures of caring for our plants and spending time outdoors. Whether you're sprucing up your garden with a new DIY project or simply taking a moment to appreciate your thriving green friends, July is the perfect time to connect with nature and enjoy the beauty of the season.
Stay cool, stay hydrated, and happy planting!
With love,
Bryana Founder
