Hello, plant besties!
Fall is upon us, and depending on where you are, you might already be feeling that crisp morning air and hearing the crunch of fallen leaves under your feet. Ahhh, I love fall just as much as summer! The shift in seasons always makes me think about how our plants respond to the change in weather, transitioning from soaking up those long days of summer solstice sunlight to adjusting to shorter days with less light. Just like us, plants can feel these changes in the environment, and it can definitely affect their growth and vitality.
As we prepare for fall, here are a few of my favorite fall plant care tips to ensure your plants thrive through the cooler months:
- Last-Minute Fertilizing: Before your plants enter a period of slower growth, give them one final fertilization. This helps provide the nutrients they need to sustain themselves during the fall and winter months.
- Adjusting Plant Locations: If you have plants that thrived near windows during the spring and summer, now is the time to move them to spots away from drafts, dry heat, radiators, or vents. Find a cozy spot thatās well-suited for the cooler months.
- Pruning and Cleaning: Prune any dead or discolored leaves to promote healthy growth. Clean your plants' leaves with Castile soap and neem oil to give them a nice shine and keep pests at bay.
- Maintaining Humidity: With sudden temperature drops and cooler weather, itās important to maintain proper humidity levels in your home. Consider using a humidifier or grouping plants together to help them retain moisture.
If youāre looking to add new plants to your collection during the fall and winter, consider varieties that adapt well to changing environments. Some great options are pothos, philodendron, ZZ plants, and snake plants. These plants are available for purchase on my website and are perfect houseplants for bringing a touch of green to your home year-round! Additionally, in the month of September we are offering customers a 10% off discount on select houseplants and merchandise by using the code FALL2024Ā on the website.
As for outdoor activities, fall is the perfect time to get out and enjoy the beauty of nature. Some of my favorite fall activities include apple picking, visiting local farmersā markets, and attending fall festivals. If the weather is nice, I love finding a park with beautiful foliage, wrapping up in a cozy blanket, and enjoying a picnic with homemade sandwiches on artisan bread and a pumpkin iced coffee in a mason jar.
There are so many wonderful ways to soak in the season: visiting botanical gardens, going on nature walks or hikes, picking pumpkins, or even just enjoying a stroll through a nearby forest to admire the changing leaves.
